Hans Herzog Marlborough Amarone Montepulciano 2012

Montepulciano "Amarone Style" 2012 - Library Wine

Passito, a venerable winemaking tradition deeply rooted in Italian heritage, serves as the inspiration behind this wine. Our Montepulciano grapes were carefully harvested and treated using this arduous method. Through air-drying in crates, the grapes concentrate their sugars and flavours before fermentation. The result is a potent wine, a symphony of luxurious flavours showcasing baked fruit, dried plums, and warm spices, underscored by nuances of rich dark chocolate. Opulent and majestic, this wine embodies richness and depth, standing as one of our most distinguished and age-worthy wines.

Vintage 2012+

Picked from very low yields of the wonderfully ripe Montepulciano, and crafted in the traditional Italian ‘Passito’ way, the grapes have been air-dried in crates and shriveled to intensely flavoured raisins to concentrate the already powerful ‘Mighty Monte’ aromas.

Hans' Winemaking Comments+

After the drying process the raisins were gently pressed and fermented creating my Montepulciano elixir which I then aged in a single French half barrique (117 litre) for two years. The raisins’ high sugar content makes for a very strong wine without being sweet.

Tasting Notes+

This opulent, majestic, richly flavoured wine is truly one of our finest and most age-worthy wines which will seduce and flatter. The rich, powerful bouquet is a spectacle of aromas of baked fruit, dried plums (zwetschke), warm spices like cloves and dark chocolate. The long lasting and attractive finish echoes the pure fruit flavour. A dark, brooding wine, generally considered one for meditation!
