Zweigelt's Timeless Elegance
Experience the extraordinary depth of our 2010 Zweigelt, a testament to Austria's premier red grape variety. Often underestimated, this wine heralds remarkable aging potential, evolving into a complex and nuanced expression over time. Handcrafted with meticulous care, it showcases rich flavors of ripe berries, black pepper, and spices, complemented by velvety smooth tannins.
One of our favourite grape varieties, this 2010 Zweigelt is a must have for wine lovers!
Vintage 2010+
We picked our 2010 Zweigelt on the 10th of April at a very low yield of less than 1kg per vine. This is Austria’s most widely planted red grape variety created in 1922 by Dr Zweigelt from a crossing of the grape varieties St. Laurent and Blaufrankisch.
Hans' Winemaking Comments+
The Zweigelt spent 15 days on the skins progressing to a wild yeast fermentation before being pressed and transferred into French Barriques for a malolactic fermentation. This seductive "Austrian" has been aged on its fine lees for 13 months. No fining, no filtration.
Original Tasting Notes+
Rich dark violet in colour with flavours of ripe berries, black pepper, spices and some earthy undertones. Aromas reminiscent of a basket of ripe stone fruits, damsons, elderberries and dark chocolate. A highly complex wine with great acidity, structure and velvety smooth tannins complete this powerhouse.
